School is out and if you haven’t already heard the dreaded “I’m bored” from your kids or grandkids, you know it’s probably coming. Luckily, living here in The Woodlands we are surrounded by amazing kid friendly amenities that will help beat those summer boredom blues and will be fun for the whole family. Here are just a few of the activities you can consider that are close to home.
The Woodlands Children’s Museum If your kids are 10 and younger, they will love this museum! The exhibits are hands on and interactive. There is something for everyone from water tables and trains, to a market and story time and shows. It is the perfect sized museum for your little ones and will keep them entertained for hours. Visit www.woodlandschildrensmuseum.org to check out their summer calendar of events.
Rob Fleming Aquatic Center The Rob Fleming Aquatic Center is a favorite summer treat! Grab a tube and take a relaxing trip around the lazy river, or take a ride down one of the waterslides. For the little ones, there are splash areas and fountains. Bring a book and enjoy the many covered shade areas with beach chairs and chaise seating. There is also a concession stand, so plan on staying for lunch. You can buy a pass here online Rob Fleming Aquatic Center or check out the times the center is open.
Kayaks, Paddleboards, and Swan Boats At the Riva Row Boat House, kayaks, paddle boards, and swan boats are available to rent. Spend a few hours paddling around The Woodlands Waterway, then spend the rest of the day at Market Street. You can grab a bite to eat, catch a movie, or shop. There are also Kayaks to rent at the Lakes Edge Boat House on Hughes Landing. This boat house is just a short walk from Restaurant Row, Whole Foods, and the new Boardwalk on Lake Woodlands. Life jackets are available at both boat houses.
Hiking Trails The Woodlands has some of the best hiking trails that wind all through the woods. The George Mitchell Preserve has two hiking trails and three miles of bike trails. Several of the trails are connected to parks, so there are lots of places for rest and shade. Terramont Park has many play and shade areas, and even a dog park. Pack a lunch and have a picnic after a fun hike. You can find a map here of network of trails to plan out your day.
There are so many other fun places to explore right here in The Woodlands. Do you have a favorite place that you love to take your family? We would love to hear some of your ideas!
