One of the easiest ways to update your home’s look is to simply rearrange your existing furniture and add some small detail or accent pieces. If you’re in the mood to refresh this fall, here are some tips for each room in your house.
Bedroom – This is where you can set up a sanctuary, a space that is truly your own. If the room is large enough for a sitting area, angle the chair or sofa so that it is looking out the window, instead of into the room. It might seem backwards, but the view is probably much better, and adding a small sofa table behind will solve this. Move your bed into the corner and surround it with a soft ottoman, houseplants and throw blankets to create a cozy nook.
Living Room – Choose a focal point and set up your furniture around that. If you have a TV in this room, it is likely the current focal point, but it doesn’t have to be. Yes, you sit there to watch TV, but you also probably use it to read, socialize, nap and play. The fireplace or a beautiful coffee table in the center of the room could be the focal point instead. After ensuring walkways have a clear path, set things up in clusters – i.e. the sofa can face the TV, but two chairs and a loveseat can make up a conversation corner.
Kitchen – Updating the look of your kitchen might not be as difficult as you’d first think. Simply adding a tablecloth and centerpiece can give a whole new feel to the room. Textured floor mats in front of the stove and kitchen sink can change the color scheme and add depth. And simply moving the location of your knife block, canisters and dish rack will give the countertops a refreshed look. Add in some seasonal or coordinating hand towels to the stove handle and voila, you’ve got an updated kitchen!
